These are some very simple steps that we recommend you take for safe and fast downloads:
Check seed to leech ratio
When downloading bittorrent files you will want to make sure there are at least 2 times
as many seeds asleeches. If you are unable to find a file with at least twice the seeders
as leechers then look for a file that is as close as possible to that specification. The
reason for this is that leeches slow your download; seeds speed it up. In other words,
the more seeders the better.
Check comments
Before you download a file you will always want to check for authenticity. No one likes
downloading a virus. The simplest and easiest way to check for this is to look at the
comments. Simply check for negative comments. One of the most obvious signs of a fake
is when the uploader has disabled comments. I typically notice this on Youtube videos
with download links. In other words, the uploader stops comments when they do not want
you to know what the downloaders know. The last sign you should check for in the comments
is who posted positive comments. If there are just 2 or 3 positive comments it could be the
uploader using other accounts. Therefore, you should check for similarities in the account
names or see if there are videos on each of the accounts because uploaders will usually
create quick accounts for posting fake comments and never post a video on it.
Never download new products
You should never attempt to download something that has just been released, specifically
games! Downloading newly released products (released within 2 to 3 months, longer for
those in high demand) can put you at risk for pirating. Newer games and programs are
watched closely for pirating. Keep in mind that older games and programs are also
monitored. So be mindful when downloading.
